Hello, Austin!

I am now officially one of the over 350,000 millennials living in Austin, and so far I am loving every minute of it! I moved here from Atlantic City, NJ in early January, and though I had a long list of reasons for the move, the biggest draw was Austin's vibrant event scene. As an event manager, it was particularly difficult to be based in a city (and I use that term loosely) that is getting smaller by the day. The event industry has long been dependent on gambling and beachgoers, both of which have suffered huge blows from legalized gambling in surrounding states and lousy weather for nine to ten months of the year. How could I not be lured by the Live Music Capital of the world? Austin is young and exciting, the weather is gorgeous most of the time and despite what I have read about some true Austinites' attitudes toward newcomers taking over their city, the people are friendlier than the large majority of those I have encountered on the east coast.

My favorite part of moving to a new place is getting to explore everything there is to offer, particularly from an event manager's perspective. I have already been to some great venues, tasted delicious food and drinks and heard a wide range of live music. The options are endless and I've only just gotten started! One of my first true Austin experiences was lunch at Franklin BBQ with my fiancé, Sean. The weather was chilly for Texas, so the line wasn't too bad when we arrived. We waited for about two hours and then had the best brisket we've ever tasted. If I enjoy every establishment I visit as much as that one, I won't be able to recommend places fast enough.

Though I have been planning events either professionally or recreationally since I was in about third grade, this is my first experience running my own company. I was surprised to learn how many people would like to be included in the process, so I look forward to sharing the company's journey on this blog. Please check back for updates and thank you for visiting!
